Carolina Panthers vs. Denver Broncos Fantasy Football Matchup Breakdown For Week 9
John Laghezza breaks down the Panthers vs. the Broncos Week 9 game for the fantasy football season.
Denver goes for a fifth straight win to make it seven of eight against the suddenly enigmatic Panthers, struggling to regain that early-season momentum. Craziest part? Ignore the records; both squads currently sit atop their division, where a Panthers win could change the trajectory of their season.

Denver Broncos Fantasy Preview For Week 9
No ignoring my collection of blue and orange receipts, accusing this Denver offense of total fraudulence, averaging just 19.0 PPG on 4.4 yards/play plus a 40.1% success rate. Generally, that dog don’t hunt, unless of course you’re backed up by a sensational defensive unit or getting at least some help from the quarterback. Well, it took the better part of two months, but the final piece to that puzzle’s slowly coming to form as Bo Nix just posted back-to-back QB1 finishes for the first time in 2026. He doesn’t take sacks (2.8%) or throw picks (1.2%), even ultimately returning to some of the running that boosted his fantasy floor. Maybe we’re witnessing Nix getting healthy off that late-season ankle injury, but he’s playing his best ball as the season progresses.
An overall lack of play volume (57.0 plays/game) unsurprisingly yields a bottom-5 unit in terms of drive efficiency (5.1 plays/drive, 24.9 yards/drive, 2:33 ToP/drive, 1.5 first downs/drive), capping the passing offense on any given Sunday — Denver’s only dropped back +35 times or thrown for +222 yards once all year. As a result, Jaylen Waddle’s perpetually disappointing compared to preseason ADP-based expectations but still worth a start out of frustration (25.0% target/route, 1.54 yards/route), especially against a banged up Panthers’ secondary down multiple starters and allowing 28.0 PPG for a month running. Courtland Sutton leads the way with five zone targets but eight weeks completed without a single top-36 finish says it all.
Losing RJ Harvey to the IR synced up perfectly with Jonah Coleman’s return to the lineup and one of the first true flippenings this season. The fourth round rookie out of Washington played 68% of snaps, earning 65% of backfield touches but it included all the high value stuff we love, namely five of six RB targets plus 100% of goal-line carries (the thing I worried about most). Given the strong underpinning rush metrics (4.5 yards/carry, 0.11 EPA/attempt, 50.0% success, 13.3% explosive rush rate), it’s likely wheels up with no turning back against a shaky Panthers’ run-stopping unit allowing the second-most PPR points/game to RBs (23.8).
Carolina Panthers Fantasy Preview For Week 9
Let’s say Bryce Young isn’t necessarily the +22 fantasy/point game player throwing for +309 yards/game we saw through Week 6. Fine … but if we’re really capitulating to full-on regression toward this two-game long nightmare (7.9 points/game, -0.34 EPA/dropback, 61.6 passer rating), I think that’s jumping the shark. Everyone’s due a clunker, especially against this new-look Buccaneers’ D putting beatdowns on everyone. The roughest aspect pushing against a reemergence for Young’s has to be this matchup. So, while I can support a return to glory at some point, I feel much better about it happening next week in New Orleans.
Good, bad, or indifferent there’s only two pass catchers who matter in this Panther offense, though that impact’s lessened significantly over the last two weeks. With that, we’re stuck starting both Tetairoa McMillan (23.6% target/route, 2.07 yards/route) and Jalen Coker (22.1% target/route, 1.83 yards/route) who still own solid advanced metrics, accounting for +45% of Carolina’s targets, air, and receiving yards. Again, the issue’s the matchup against Denver shutting down most opposing vertical games, refusing any semblance of efficiency through the air (0.02 EPA/dropback, 80.4 opposing passer rating, 58.7% completion, 6.5 yards/attempt). Sure, Patrick Mahomes and Matthew Stafford balled out versus DEN but I’m not putting this version of Bryce Young in that bin.
Every passing week cements Chuba Hubbard further into the conversation for best fantasy pick of 2026. The overall RB6 in points/game (19.0), posted strong underlying stats (4.6 yards/carry, 3.17 yards after contact/rush, 0.02 EPA/attempt, 53.0% success) to go with a double-digit team target share plus a death grip on Carolina’s high value green zone work. Denver’s rush defense won’t make it easy for anyone, but their lack of explosiveness on offense keeps most game scripts neutral, sustaining Hubbard’s projectables at RB1 levels.
