Atlanta Falcons Fantasy Preview For Week 8
Atlanta’s current situation will almost certainly force them to take their backup QB more seriously in the future. Forced to start Cooper Rush for two weeks put them behind the eight-ball, putting extra weight on recent tough losses to the Bears and Ravens. Impossible to blame Michael Penix, who hasn’t thrown a pick in over a month, even emerging as a fantasy-viable play for the first time in his career. As the Falcons’ playoff scenario grows increasingly dire, we could see this recent volume sustain (36.7 dropbacks/game; L3) and build off these back-to-back top-8 finishes. At 8.0 yards/attempt and a passer rating north of 109, it’s time to treat Penix as a back-end fantasy QB1 going forward.
What is there to say about Bijan Robinson, other than you’re kicking yourself if you took Ja’Marr Chase over him at the 1.02? Owner of an elite dual-threat role in the Falcons’ offense, Robinson’s averaging over 22 touches/game for 5.8 yards/play, good for the NFL’s third-highest scrimmage yards/game (122.3). Not to put any unnecessary injury negativity into the universe, but Brian Robinson’s hamstring cost him Week 7, subsequently triggering lots of drops for someone that’s still among the most prized handcuffs in fantasy — one emergency, and he’s going to project as a top-15 RB with ease.
I’ve got good news and bad news for the Falcons’ receiving room. Good news? It’s as consolidated as anyone’s in the NFL — and if you’re in, you’re gravy. Drake London finally found the end zone, and if his advanced metrics since Penix got back under center are any indication (30.1% target/route, 3.44 yards/route), it’s just the beginning. Ditto for Kyle Pitts, who’s now working out wide plus in the slot, making +5 grabs with at least one score in three straight. He’s rostered in the majority of leagues but also makes an interesting add-on via trade.
What’s the bad news? Atlanta’s more and more leaning into jumbo personnel, running +2-TE sets on a season-high 65% of snaps in Week 7, bringing their season total to 46.3%. In fact, four different TEs caught at least one pass versus the Niners. Therefore, you can basically hand-wave the entirety of their remaining WR/TE room, especially in any game implying fewer than 50 points.
- Start: Bijan Robinson (RB3), Drake London (WR10), Kyle Pitts (TE15)
- Sit: Jahan Dotson (WR69)
- Sleeper: Michael Penix (QB20)
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Fantasy Preview For Week 8
If I told you Tampa hung a 40-burger on the Panthers in Baker Mayfield’s return, you’d probably wish you streamed him at QB (64-1-0, 1-1-0; 6.7 points). Well, for only 11 total attempts, I guess Mayfield looked alright, though a wild game script’s skewing any semblance of meaningful analysis. He did finish the contest healthy without a single off-target throw or sack taken, obviously good things. Atlanta’s allowed five of the last six opposing QBs to throw for +286 yards, so keep Baker in mind as a potential short-term answer with the Bears and Lions coming up.
Every week’s another chance for me to reflect on missing out on Bucky Irving this draft season. Bucky just wrapped up his second top-3 finish (24-106-2, 1-4-0) in two weeks, good for 20.8 points/game as the overall RB5 in that span. Most surprising to me is how bad he’s iced Kenneth Gainwell out of the rotation, who definitively outplayed Jaylen Warren just last year. Bucky’s teetering on 20 touches/game, highlighted by a firm grasp on both receiving and goal-line work with no signs of slowing as Tampa feels the walls closing in on 2026.
A concussion kept sophomore stud WR Emeka Egbuka out for Week 7, so +45% of what few passes Baker did throw went to Chris Godwin. I wouldn’t overreact to that small sample like the others, though knowing there’s at least a handful of dedicated plays for the veteran remains encouraging. Yes, Godwin’s becoming a popular drop candidate, yet to crack a top-40 finish, but I’d hold onto him just in case this Buccaneer offense galvanizes going forward.
- Start: Baker Mayfield (QB23), Bucky Irving (RB7), Emeka Egbuka (WR26)
- Sit: Cade Otton (TE23)
- Sleeper: Chris Godwin (WR45)
